Viktor Pivovarov. THEM
A luminary among Moscow conceptualists presents new works.
Viktor Pivovarov could be called the Russian Rene Magritte – his works have the same surreal and melancholic spirit. But despite the strong influence that surrealism exerted on his work, Pivovarov is more often linked to conceptualism (for many years he moved in Moscow conceptualist circles and was a friend of Ilya Kabakov). Recently his pieces have become more sensuous. They show philosophers and beautiful naked women, though instead of heads they have mysterious colored circles and exist in a strange, unreal space, almost in limbo.
